It’s amazing how many tipsters are on social media, but yet most of them don’t publish results and there is an obvious reason for that – they don’t make money!

I started tipping on Facebook in July 2015 and I still recommend a small 30 point betting bank that covers all 4 sports – horse racing, darts, snooker & golf.

Although I didn’t quite make my predicted 200+ points profit, which I am not too disappointed with as my new and improved horse racing tips, which I introduced in June and then added the same tips for a place too in July, are going really well. From 1st July – 24th July they produced +45.90 points profit so the future is looking very bright indeed.

WGC Bridgestone Invitational

golf picture - dustin johnson
Dustin Johnson

Firestone Country Club is hosting the WGC Bridgestone Invitational once again which is a course that will suit long straight hitters. I am surprised that Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy have opted for the French Open as they are past winners here.

Jordan Spieth

He played some excellent golf in the Dean & Deluca Invitaional three tournaments back, especially the final round to win by knocking in twenty footers for fun, chipped in twice and only had nine putts in the back nine. But Jordan has flopped in his last two outings finishing T37 & T57.

I can’t really back him for an outright win at 12/1 or back him for a top five finish at 5/2 as he is lacking consistency. But I will go for a less riskier option of trading him instead as he is very capable of turning it on at any moment, hopefully it’s this weekend!

Jason Day

Jason has won three tournaments this year which is quite impressive considering he hasn’t played that many times. But in his last three tournament he has managed one round in each of 76, 74 &  73 which is putting me off him this week. Also at 11/2 there isn’t much room to trade him either, so I will give him a miss this week.

Day – No bet

Dustin Johnson

Finally I got caught out laying Dusty last week in the US Open at 5/2 in running which was inevitable at some point but I won’t let that put me off taking him on again this weekend. Shane Lowry was four shot clear going into the final round and gifted the US Open to Dustin.

This course will suit him as he is hitting it long and accurate off of the tee but his putting is his weakest link. His tee to green play is the reason why he has had five top five finishes in his last seven tournaments and his putting is why he has only won one of them.

You can get 15/8 for a top five finish for him which looks very tempting but I will stick to laying him in running at a lesser price instead.

Lay Johnson in running at 4.00 (3/1)

French Open – Outright Win Lay

The French Open Favourite – Rory McIlroy

The Albatross course at Le Golf National has been the home for the French Open for years and will be hosting the 2018 Ryder Cup too. However there have been plenty of changes to the course this year and it has only recently re-opened after 10 months of improvements.

Rory McIlroy is the 9/2 tournament favourite with his nearest rival in the betting being Martin Kaymer at 16/1. I for one don’t think that this tournament should be as one sided as the betting suggests.`

Incidently I will also be betting in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in the States in a separate post.

Rory McIlroy

Rory hasn’t shot under 70 in his first round in 5 of his last 6 tournaments, which has cost him dearly. Yes he won the Irish Open with -2 in his first round and was excellent in the final four holes, but that to me that was a one off performance and not the norm. He also missed the cut in last weeks US Open which is not a good sign for Rory backers coming into this tournament.

With the new course improvements he is going to have to be accurate off of the tee which he hasn’t been in recent months. Also  and his putting under 10 feet isn’t as good as it was, so I will be taking him on at this price from the start.

however I can’t ignore the market and will back Rory for a top five finish as a little bit of cover plus the rest of the field are a little bit weak.

Quicken Loans National – Outright Win/Trade

picture of professional golfer - jim furyk
Jim Furyk

I though last weeks US Open was a bit of a let down, not because I lost money but because the top three were disappointing. They all won three tournaments back and flopped ever since, which is alarming from a betting perspective as I am hoping golf isn’t becoming an unpredictable sport.

On to this weeks action and Rickie Fowler heads the market as the favourite but I will be given him a miss and will trade golf’s “Mr Steady” Jim Furyk.

I may well lay* a player in running.

Jim Furyk

Jim has been off for six months with a wrist injury and played pretty well in last weeks US Open. I think he will do well and a top 10 finish would be my bet here if I was a traditional golfing betting man at 9/4 as a lot of top players are absent this week!

But I prefer the added safety of trading.

I have three bets below which translate to breaking even if he goes to 16/1 in running and a 1 point profit no matter who wins if he hits 3/1 in running. If you find this a bit of a head scratcher feel free to PM me on Facebook or Twitter and I will explain it further.

The US Open – Final Round

Clara man Shane Lowry may well lift Irish spirits this weekend after Ireland lost 3-0 to Belgium yesterday which may well be the end of their Euro 2016 campaign, as he is 4 shots ahead going into round four.

Golf picture - professional irish golfer shane lowry from clara county offaly
Will Irish Eyes Be Smiling Today? I Think So!

Now Shane is big into following Offaly, his home county, in all the gaelic games and he missed a big match last week as he flew over to America to practice for this tournament, which looks like it’s paying off.

He won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational last year and saw off Bubba Watson in the process which showed me that he has come off age with a winning golfing mentality as lets face it, most of them are more than capable of winning any tournament, but playing well under pressure is what separates the winners from the pack.

Shane got married two weeks ago on Friday  and golfers notoriously play well after getting married of becoming a father for the first time!

He is generally odds on generally with most bookies but evens is available with Corals. However Betfair are actually 11/10 on the exchange and after 5% commission you are actually getting 21/20 or 2.06. He is teeing off with Dustin Johnson at 3.30pm local time and 8.30pm GMT, with live coverage starting on Sky at 6pm. Dustin is a player that I don’t rate at all as regular readers would know as I lay* him a lot when he is in contention. In fact I laid him after round two when he was the joint leader and I am more than happy with that bet!

Shane is a proven front runner and a confidence player and after looking at the leaderboard I really can’t see anyone coming out of the pack to beat him, so at odds against with a four shot lead I have to get stuck in!

The US Open – Lay Tip

Well what has happened to Jason Day and Rory McIlroy?  If they don’t get their acts together they could both miss the cut!

I was really hoping this would be the season where I would see the big three battling it out for the majors with two of them being in the final 2 ball on the Sunday afternoon but it’s not likely this week as the second major of the season is taking shape. All three have been really erratic this season I am wondering if there is a price with some bookie that none of them will win a Major this year!

Well on the plus side my favourite and most profitable player of 2016 has only gone and done it again, yes my cash cow golfer Dusty is at the top of the leaderboard once more.

$$$ Dustin Johnson $$$

Dustin Johnson

I remember in the US Open last year Dusty was one shot clear of Jordan Spieth going into the final hole and three putted from around fourteen feet or so to lose the match, two putts would have guaranteed a play-off. So from that moment on I have him marked down as a choker.

He has won 1 tournament each year since he turned pro and is yet to win one this season. He tends to play well in the first two rounds and then has a stinker in either round three or four which scuppers his chances of winning.

I should have laid him last week, but I changed my mind as a lot of the top players were absent because they were putting the finishing touches to their games for this tournament, I am kicking myself now as he had a stinker in round three whch ruined his chances of winning.

But although Rory and Jason are hacking around this week there is still the likes of Jordan and Sergio not too far behind.

AT&T Byron Nelson – Outright Wins/Trades

This year’s AT&T Byron Nelson looks pretty open to me but I still have two bets to get stuck into.

picture of the golfer dustin johnson

Matt Kuchar

Jordan Spieth missed the cut last week so it’s hard to know what to do with him, so I have decided to just avoid him. Matt played well last week finishing joint third and with no Day and Spieth off colour it could well be Matt’s turn to lift some silverware come Sunday night.

Dustin Johnson

This is a standing bet of a player who I think is very over rated. Yes hits the ball a long way but tend to bottle it when the going gets tough. He is currently the 8/1 2nd favourite which is too high to lay for me, so I will lay him at a lesser price in running instead.

The Irish Open – Outright Wins/Trades

This was the tournament that threw Shane Lowry in to the spotlight when he won it as an amateur in 2009 and then turned professional the following season. Rory McIlroy is the favourite this year and will no doubt the world number 3 will have the home crowd on his side but I will be taking him on!

Picture of Rory McIlroy a professional golfer playing the Irish Open

Rory McIlroy

I will be taking on Rory for the foreseeable future at this kind of price as he is just too inconsistent to back. He changed his putting grip 2 months or so ago and it will take a while to bed in and hold up under pressure. In his last 3 tournaments he hasn’t broken 70 in round one which is just leaving him too much to do to win. Plus he has missed the cut in this tournament for the last three years!

Lay at 5.50 (9/2)

~~~~~
Shane Lowry
Shane played well last week and was right up there at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds. He recently got married and that tends to effect a players game in a positive way. He won once last year and proved that he has what it takes to win a tournament. Deep down I just have a gut feeling that he is about to come into form, hopefully it’s this week.
~~~~~

Danny Willett

Danny has a great swing that holds up under pressure and after his recent Masters win he is a proven winner. He has recently become a father and that too tends to benefit players on the course. So if he can win the Masters he can surely win this as a lot of the top Americans are missing here.

Wells Fargo Championship

The leaderboard going in the the final round looks like this:

  • -9 Fowler
  • -8 Castro
  • -7 Rose & Hahn

picture of rickie fowler a professional golfer

The 2 obvious contenders to win are Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose. Castro and Hahn are ranked 282 and 134 respectively, So I would safely say that you can exclude them as they are likely to fold when the pressure mounts on the back nine.

I am siding with Rickie Fowler here who is obviously refreshed after taking a few weeks off after the Masters, where he missed the cut. He has won this tournament in 2013 and has won once so far in 2016.

Justin Rose hasn’t been in the top 3 so far in 2016 and last year he won once but was second 3 times and I just feel that he has peeked and his best years are behind him compared to Rickie who is getting better every season.

Back Fowler 21/20 – Tote (2.05)

Zurich Classic – Lay Update

venue_zurich_classic_2

I previously advised to LAY Brian Stuard on the basis that there would be 4 rounds of golf, but there may only be 3 rounds due to bad weather.

I have contacted Betfair customer services and they said that all bets are void unless there are 54 holes played and the prices stay the same. So to be safe just cash out as Stroud is the joint leader with potentially 12 holes left to play and take a small loss as he has come down from 6.20 to 5.00

If there are 4 rounds I will put up the original tip in a separate post, the cashing out is just a precaution
