Throughout the festival I will be putting up placepots, lays and wins in separate posts so there should be something for everyone.
A placepot is where you have to pick a horse to be placed in the first 6 races of a meeting and are well worthwhile doing for the Cheltenham Festival and Royal Ascot as they can pay out over 1,000/1.
You can do placepots online with all bookmakers under the tote section or in person in any betting shop which is like filling out a lottery ticket. If you have any queries about placepots I will have my Facebook & Twitter accounts open so you can ask me there.
The going is officially soft (good to soft in places).
I have a bit of everything to back today, each way, place and a win bets.
3.30 Grade 1 – Stan James Champion Hurdle (2 m)
I tipped Identity Thief each way at 14/1 on 26th January on Facebook and Twitter a few days before I started this website and he is now down to 15/2. So with Faugheen declared a non runner last month I am more than happy with my selection. Annie Power is the 5/2 favourite and a mare hasn’t won this race for over 20 years, she is a lay for me which is detailed in my lay post.
Identity Thief has been placed in 7/8 races and was pulled up in the other race. My only slight concern here is that he hasn’t run at Cheltenham before. Won a grade 1 and a grade 2 and has won on good to soft and soft so will love the ground.
I would be shocked if he wasn’t placed.

4.10 Grade 1 – OLBG Mare’s Hurdle ( 2m3f)
I tipped the 2nd favourite Polly Peachum to win on the 2nd January, which she duly obliged, but I will be jumping ship today. Vroum Vroum Mag sounds like she was named by a 3 year old boy, silly name aside she is nap of the day here and it’s a shame that she isn’t a bigger price but you can only play the hand that you are dealt.
Unbeaten in 8 races since joining Willie Mullins and 3 of those were on today’s conditions, soft ground.
NB – Money back if second with Paddy Power who are quoting 2/1 up to stakes of £25 on all races this festival!

4.50 Listed – National Hunt Challenge (3m7f)
I am not that keen on JP McManus’s Minella Rocco who is the 9/2 favourite here but he is too high to lay for me so instead I will be going for a place with Southfield Royale at Betfair Exchange SP.
Prices for places tend to be much higher with Betfair Exchange than with any bookmaker.
Southfield Flyers last 2 outings have produced a win in a grade 2 and a second in a grade 1 behind the useful Tea For Two so he is coming into the race in great form. Has won on this ground and has one of the best jockeys in the this amateur race, Nina Carberry!
20 runners in this race so I will be opting for a place.
Back Southfield Royal for a place (1-2-3)
